Beauty Q&A: Minimizing Scars?

Q.

How can I minimize the appearance of my scar?

A.

The absolute best way to hide these “blemishes” (basically anything from a skinned knee to a surgical scar) is to avoid sun exposure. Covering the area by wearing a hat, long pants, or using an all-purpose sunscreen is key. Remember, scars aren't fully healed for up to one full year from their appearance, so this extreme sun protection should be maintained for at least a year. Other ways to improve the aesthetic and overall healing of any wound are: applying silicone, massaging the scar, and applying a topical moisturizer.

And anyone that’s prone to excessive healing like keloids and hypertrophic scars (raised scar-skin) may benefit from topical or injectable steroids. Definitely contact your doctor before administering any kind of steroid.
