Beauty Q&A: Wedding Ring Rashes?

I developed a rash under my wedding ring. What's up?

When you wash your hands, soap and water get caught under your band, and the same goes for applying hand lotion. Then add showering and washing dishes; your ring is a resting place for all sorts of suds, which leads to irritated and red skin. It may sound harsh, but you need to stop wearing your ring for a few days so the bumps can clear. You can also apply some OTC hydrocortisone cream (or just try to wear your ring less). Be really careful about drying under and around your ring from now on (and rinsing away all soap residues). Think about wearing gloves while you wash dishes, removing rings preshower, and leaving them off while you sleep. Make sure to scrub the inside of the band when you clean the ring and rinse off any solution with plain water before slipping it back on your finger.

My mom was shocked when she heard that I had to take my wedding rings off at, because my hands are puffy in the mornings. Also, I couldn't get rid of the rash underneath it until I started doing it.
