Cell Phone Guide: Part Fantasy

Fantasy Phone Description

Verizon

BlackBerry Bold

The latest BlackBerry will be available on Verizon in September 2008 and promises to offer improvements on previous BlackBerrys. These improvements include a clearer screen, GPS and BlackBerry maps, a faster processor, and the ability to sync iTunes with BlackBerry multimedia.

AT & T

iPhone 3G

Hailed by many as the “Jesus Phone,” the iPhone is now in its third generation. For you nontechnophiles, this means you can now get the phone in either black or white, and it’s faster than its previous incarnations. The phone also doubles as an iPod and is available with either 8GB or 16GB of memory. Be prepared for everyone around you to salivate when you use it.

Price: $199 (8GB), $299 (16GB).

Sprint

Samsung Instinct

This newest entrant into the touch-screen, web-enabled, does-everything-but-the-dishes phone category is said to be quite a worthy competitor to its adversary, the iPhone. It comes with 2GB of memory but supports 8GB cards, which are available for purchase at Sprint or wherever the Instinct is sold.

Price: $450, but if you get it now with a two-year contract, you’ll only pay $130.

Where to get it: InstinctthePhone.com

T-Mobile

BlackBerry Curve

Weighing in at a mere 3.9 ounces with a full QWERTY keyboard, the Curve is definitely one of the nicest smartphones on the market. Surf the web, BlackBerry message friends, and look like a businessperson even if you aren’t one. Since it’s a quad-band worldphone, the Curve will work anywhere T-Mobile has GPRS (general packet radio service).

Price: $500, but $150 with a mail-in rebate and two-year agreement with data plan.

Where to get it: T-Mobile.com/shop
