Good question. We suggest you put it out for a few months, at least when she visits. But after a solid year of your friend noticing the hideous thing, you can discreetly let it disappear. And if she has the courage to ask where it went, say something like, “Oh, it’s so sad; it broke.” Or, if you’re a little bit braver, say, “You know, I just didn’t think that a ceramic bowl of swans kissing went with the room decor. But I have it in a very safe place, so when we do have a space that it works with, it’ll come right out!”
