Love Q&A: Weekend with Friends?

Is it okay to go on girls’ and guys’ weekends now that we’re married?

Of course it is. Being married doesn’t mean you’re a package deal for all social events. There’s a right way to do it, though. First, talk to your spouse about it like you would with any other weekend-long travel plans. Go over the whos, whens, and wheres, and make sure your spouse didn’t make other plans for both of you that weekend. During the course of the event, try to behave -- not like a nun or a priest, but like a person who respects her marriage. If any situation (from a lap dance to accepting an innocent drink from the tall stranger in the corner) feels like you'd need to keep it a secret, then think twice before going ahead. Finally, call your spouse while you’re there and come home with stories to tell.
