Q.
Does birth control really affect your sex drive? I'm fine on my “week off” and then horrible when I'm on the pills.
A.
It varies tremendously from woman to woman how much birth control pills influence sex drive and desire. Some see absolutely no effect, and others experience strong side effects that completely destroy their desire for sex. As there are so many options available, you’d be well advised to go to your healthcare provider and discuss trying another type of birth control pill. You may find a brand that doesn’t alter your libido in this way.
But let your husband know that you’re concerned about what the pill does to your desire. You don’t want to keep him in the dark about this. Men (and women!) often blame themselves for their partners being turned off sex when there may be another cause -- as in your case, the pill.
