You Asked:

My husband complains that he can't feel me during sex. Is there anything I can do to make my vagina a bit tighter?

Dr. Pam Answers:

It's very common for women to lose the elasticity in their vagina. Often this occurs after childbirth, gynecological difficulties, surgery, certain hormonal changes, or simply through muscle wastage because of lack of use.

Kegel exercises greatly improve your vaginal and pelvic floor muscles. All you do is imagine the muscles you'd use to stop yourself mid-flow during urination. Then gently tighten and squeeze those muscles, hold for a count of two to three seconds, and repeat this 10 times. Build up over a couple weeks to 20 repetitions, twice daily. You should see an improvement in a matter of a month or so.

If you find these exercises helpful, you can move onto more advanced exercises where you hold a vaginal "egg," or love beads, inside yourself with your vaginal muscles. There are also vaginal weights you can squeeze and hold to further build up muscle strength.

Many people also find that good, old-fashioned doggy-style position -- with their pelvis and hips pointed upward while on their hands and knees -- naturally tightens these muscles.

All these exercises have the added benefit of improving bladder control and giving women stronger orgasms once muscle tone has improved. Invite your husband to do the exercises as well -- they'll not only help him identify his pelvic floor muscles, but the result will be stronger orgasms and better staying power for him!
