How can we find out how much paint we need for one room?
To estimate a room, measure the height and width of one wall at a time, and add up the square footage of each; that’s much easier than trying to do the math on the whole room. (Example: If one wall is 10 by 10, that’s 100 square feet. If the next wall is 10 by 12, that’s 120 square feet. Add those up and you have 220 square feet.) “A one-gallon can says you’ll get up to 400 square feet per can, but you’re safer estimating 300 to 350 square feet per can.” And here’s another tip: If you have a few cans of paint, and a few walls, “Don’t start a new wall if you don’t have enough paint in one can to cover it,” says Judy Scott, an associate for Home Depot. Colors may vary ever-so-slightly between cans. So if you start a new can of paint halfway through one wall, the, which will leave you with an obvious line of difference. Instead, mix the remaining paint from one can into your new can.
