Is there an easy way to spruce up or disguise our parquet floors?
It doesn’t sound like you were going to, but it should be said: definitely don’t rip them out. “Parquet floors are actually solid wood, which make them durable, and they contribute to the structure of your home,” says Home Depot associate Judy Scott. If you don’t like them because they’re in bad shape, rent an orbital or vibrating sander to take off fine layers of varnish, water stains, and scratches. Then clean them thoroughly and cover with a new floor varnish. If you don’t like the style, says Scott, “clean the floors well, then prime them and paint over them with porch and floor paint, specifically.” Don’t like the square pattern on the floor? Fill in the seams of the floor with joint compound for a flat, streamlined look.
