Buying Q&A: Appliance Safety

Q.

The Nest Q&A

Besides lint build-up, when do appliances become a safety risk?

A.

Only when they’re defective or improperly maintained. Some appliance failures can become electrocution hazards, as well as fire risks. That’s why a malfunctioning appliance should be taken out of service immediately until it’s fixed. Besides the overall safety issue, putting off repairs often leads to more extensive damage, sometimes to the point of making a unit impossible to salvage.
