How to Buy a Rug

things to consider when buying a new rug

The right rug for you really depends on your life stage. If you’re about to have kids, don’t buy something too expensive. If you have a lot of parties, it’s probably not a great idea to buy something you’ll be constantly vigilant about.

Consider your floor another wall -- and don’t feel like you have to treat it traditionally. Remember, much of your rug will be covered up by furniture, meaning it’s a great place to take a risk. Underneath tables is a good spot to experiment with different rugs: You can add a punch of color to make a table look less heavy or a graphic rug to make a white table really stand out.

Whatever your price range, don’t underestimate the power of a really good-looking rug. Overstock.com is a great resource for rugs (and just about everything else); you can find lots of fabulous store leftovers at fantastic prices.
