Laundry Q&A: Bleach on Light Colors?

Q.

The Nest Q&A

Can I wash very light colored clothes (like pale blues, pinks, and yellows) in bleach, or is bleach only for whites?

A.

Though it's probably better to use a color-safe bleach on your color loads, we've often gotten away with using regular bleach on light-colored fabrics, especially since it's so good at getting out stains. But don't use bleach in every load of your lights or whites. Only use it when you need to get out stains. And by all means, check the care label; if it says "no bleach," it's not lying.
