Meet the Couple
Channel-surf the political news shows and you’re bound to see Bret Baier smiling back at you on the tube. A key player reporting on the 2008 presidential campaign trail, Bret is the Chief White House Correspondent for the Fox News Channel. He anchors three weekly shows, has traveled to Iraq 12 times and does his daily nine-to-five in the West Wing of the White House (how cool is that?). His wife, Amy, is a fundraising dynamo for DC’s Children’s National Medical Center. Talk about a power couple!
So how did they meet? Amy and Bret were set up on a blind date at a Rolling Stones concert in Amy’s hometown of Chicago. “When the weekend was over, I told our mutual friend that I’d just met my future wife,” admits Bret. The duo started dating long-distance, flying to see each other on weekends despite their busy jobs.
A year later, Bret proposed and the couple bought a two-bedroom, two-bath condo in Georgetown. “We fell in love with the views and its location in the heart of Washington,” says Amy. Since she didn’t officially move to DC until a week before their wedding, they decorated it long-distance. “We’d make decisions together on the weekends when I was in DC…it’s lucky we have the same taste!” she explains. When Amy finally moved in, Bret had a surprise for her. “He carried me into the condo, and there were fresh flowers and candles lit everywhere,” says Amy. “He’s a very romantic guy.”
Love notes Bret strategically wooed Amy to move out east. “I sent her two guidebooks on DC each week for five weeks, with pages flagged of places I thought she’d love to see.”
