How to Accessorize Your Garden

Adding decorative elements to your yard can give it style and personality. Here's how to do it.

Not to be harsh, but…people tend to have certain (think: super-tacky) ideas about their gardens that they just don’t have about their homes. Somehow, even the most picky, discriminating homeowners just seem to go crazy when it comes to their outdoor areas. Our advice? Apply the same design principles to your garden that you would to your home.

What does that mean? First, don’t junk it up with tons of orbs, birdbaths, and sculptures -- nature should be the main attraction. Any decorative items should serve to catch the eye or anchor the yard, and lead the eye from the indoors to out. And just like you would inside your home, make sure whatever accessories you pick complement your garden’s theme -- whether it’s modern, eclectic, or traditional.
