Planning a renovation can be nerve-wracking. Pick the perfect contractor and the job could be smooth sailing. Don’t and it could be a complete disaster. But how to choose? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
- Let this be your mantra: Cheapest is not necessarily the best.
- Look for the bid that includes the most details, with everything possible spelled out.
- Don’t ever sign a proposal or contract unless it mentions a finite, fixed, or lump sum. Anything vague spells trouble.
- Know that every contractor will charge you for “change of work orders.” That’s contractor speak for “you changed your mind again.” So try to make as many decisions as you can possibly make -- before asking for people to submit bids.
