We're renting and can't paint our walls. What else can we do?

Bring in color through wall decals or DIY art, like a stretched fabric over canvas (just cover up any nail holes with Spackle or toothpaste). Have a great piece of fabric or light rug from a trip you took? Hang it as a tapestry. Another idea is to create a border of cork and then tack fabric to it. Just line the seam between the ceiling and the top of the wall and the baseboard and the floor with 6x6 pieces of cork. Use a plastic adhesive (available at office supply stores) to hang the cork so that when you take it down there won't be any nail holes.
