The Nest Q&A

Our bedroom measures 18’ x 11’ and we’re planning to put the bed up against the longer wall. Do you think we should get a rug for the area around the bed or for the entire room?

A.

Bigger is better. It will really ground the room and make it feel cozy. If you’re an apartment dweller, a big rug is key for absorbing sound. But if you’ll miss your wood floor, cover the area that surrounds the bed. Just make sure that the rug extends past the footboard and at least three feet from both sides of the bed so there’s enough coverage for a soft landing when you’re hopping in and out of bed. Oh, and don’t forget to use a rug pad, rotate it yearly and vacuum as needed.
