How to Get a Cleaner, Greener Bathroom

It doesn’t take much to start greening-up your digs. Here's how.

Relax, to make your home more energy smart you don't have to overhaul the entire place in one go. Here are three easy fixes that you can make today, this month…and finally, this year. Get your (recycled) calendar ready.

Today: Shower curtains made from PVC may give off gas that you inhale during a hot shower. Replace yours with a cotton or canvas option.

This month: Install a water-saving showerhead. There are affordable models that cut water use by 50 to 70 percent and can save a family of four up to $250 a year. That’s nothing to sneeze at.

This Year: It’s time to get a new throne! A low-flow toilet uses only 1.6 gallons of water per flush. Compare that to the (whoa!) seven gallons that are used by less efficient, older toilets. Talk about waste.
