Nestie Virtual Makeover: Rachel's Home Office

Welcome to our very first “Nestie Virtual Makeover” post!

Most of us can’t afford the services of an interior designer (and for those of you who can, we’re jealous). So we’re stuck with our half-empty rooms, our online decorating tips, our walls covered in dozens of one-square-foot paint samples, and our fingers crossed.

But what if a talented interior design professional was kind enough to take the time to sketch you a “virtual” makeover of your "problem" room, all wrapped up in a box with a color sketch, product info, fabric samples and hand-picked paint swatches? Well, that’s one of the services that interior designer Stacey Serro of P-L-A-I-D offers to clients. And here’s the great news: Stacey has agreed to give virtual room makeovers to you, the Nesties! Exciting, right?!

This week’s virtual makeover recipient is a gal from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida -- our very own Rachel Jackson. Rachel's home office -- in which spends about 11 hours a day -- was in desperate need of a redo. So she asked Stacey to give the space a complete makeover; with no particular color or design preferences, she was just looking for "a space I can walk into every day and feel inspired." (Oh, and nothing pink or furry. Rachel shares the office with her husband, Bruce, and he put the kibosh on anything too feminine.)

Stacey went to work on this office (no pun intended), sketching up the image above! Rachel says it’s the most unique room she’s ever seen, and she loves it! We concur. Let’s take a closer look.

For starters, Stacey took Rachel's existing desk (check out West Elm’s similar Parsons desk) and topped it with a custom Lucite hutch.

Then she brought on the drama. Get a load of that super-glam Jupiter chandelier from Z Gallerie and black Room Essentials Sailcloth window panels from Target.

Those white tufted poufs from Global Views add extra seating for clients. (They’re pricey, but you can check more affordable shops like Urban Outfitters and Target for tufted ottomans too.)

The black and white rug tiles are from our favorite customize-your-own-rug company, interfaceFLOR.

A gallery of black-and-white photography in clean black frames suggests even more sophistication -- and talk about a great DIY project.

But the most unexpected element in the room is undoubtedly the ceiling, which Stacey covered with Celestial Dragon in Torn Plaid Marshmallow wallpaper by Flavor Paper!

Rachel’s favorite part of the room is the glossy dry erase board that Stacey suggested for the wall. You can get one from an office supply store or – get this – paint one of your walls in dry erase paint, like this formula from Rustoleum!

By the way, this is what Rachel's office looked like before. Drastic improvement!
