Our neighbor put up a fence on our shared property line with the back (ugly side) facing our yard. I thought the rule was ugly side in, pretty side out. Should we say something?

First, check the city codes or homeowners' association to find out the rules in your 'hood. Most areas have regulations for everything from fence height to which side faces the neighbors. If there is a rule on the books, there should also be a set of guidelines for cluing your neighbor into it. You have every right to speak up -- but don't go in with guns ablazin'. Offer to finish your side or erect your own, or ask your neighbor to flip his. Just use your manners.
