How to Cook with Bread

Think beyond the sandwich -- there really are about a million other things you can do with bread. And the bonus is, it doesn’t even have to be homemade bread! Here are some of our favorite (non-sandwich) bread recipes and ideas:

Bread Crumbs
Run super-stale bread through the food processor or a cheese grater, add seasoning, and you’ve got yourself some nice homemade breadcrumbs!

Bread Pudding
A perfect seasonal dessert to warm up your belly and use your leftover bread.

Croutons
Saute chunks of stale bread with butter and olive oil, season to your liking, and pop in the oven to crisp ’em up.

French Toast
This French toast marinates overnight and then is baked the next morning. (But in a pinch regular old French toast with a couple of eggs, some milk, cinnamon and syrup works mighty fine, too.)

Meat
Short on your ground beef for hamburgers, meatloaf or meatballs? Just add in some ground, stale bread to extend the meat and get a nice fluffy texture.

Panzanella (Bread Salad)
Use your three- to four-day-old Italian bread to make a yummy salad with tomatoes and cucumbers. For the complete recipe, click here.

Strata
This baked combo of cubed bread, cheese, milk and eggs can serve as a base for all sorts of different mix-ins.
