How to Motivate Him to Cook More

Tired of ordering take out? Try these techniques to convince him that cooking in is really easier.

TV tasks
As long as there’s a TV in the kitchen, this is the perfect opportunity to kill two tasks at once. Whip something up and catch the touchdowns on Monday night.

Tandem cook,
Make cooking a couple’s activity. Turn the lights down low, throw on some slow music, and choose a romantic dish -- maybe something you ate on your first date. This is a great way to expose yourselves to the kitchen and cooking techniques, and create a positive kitchen association for you both.

Cool tools
You’d be amazed how much a good set of knives or a new roasting pan can make you excited to cook. Or, go for an even bigger investment like an awesome new grill or a smoker. It will take a while for the thrill to wear off -- trust us.

Clean up
Make a deal: Whoever doesn’t cook is in charge of all clean up. This way, even if you do end up cooking more than you’d like, at least your load is still reduced. And, he may end up willing to cook more if he knows he’s getting out of (or not getting into) another chore.

Man food
Not to be stereotypical, but…there are some foods that just scream man. We’re thinking wings (or anything buffalo), grilling, recipes that use beer, pancakes (for some reason, dudes seem to love these). Put them in the rotation at least once a week.

Now that you've got him whipping up dishes with you in the kitchen, check out other ways you can stay current with your spouse.
