Q.
We’re having family over for a “thank-you” dinner for helping with our wedding. Our house is so small…any ideas on how to pull it off?
A.
When your guest list is twice as big as your dinner table, skip a traditional dinner and serve a menu of “heavy apps” instead. Think satisfying but sophisticated finger foods like Merguez Meatballs with Yogurt Sauce, Crab Salad on Endive Leaves, and Two-Olive Tapenade on Bruschetta (all recipes available at TheNest.com/appetizers). Space out the food and drinks (some on the coffee table, on the dining room table, a self-service bar on the kitchen counter) so guests keep moving and mingling.
If you’re hell-bent on a traditional dinner party, consider renting or buying an extra table and chairs (try BallardDesigns.com). Just move aside some of the living room furniture, and voilà—you’ve doubled the size of your dining space.
