Pour the Perfect Drink

Holiday thyme
1 oz. Dubonnet Rouge (you can find it at liquor stores for about $13)
2 oz. vodka
Sprig of fresh thyme
Squeeze of lemon juice
Lemon slice, for garnish

1. In a cocktail shaker, combine Dubonnet, vodka, thyme sprig and fresh lemon juice.
2. Shake vigorously. Pour into a rocks glass filled with crushed ice.
3. Garnish with a lemon slice.

Help! My family’s getting drunk.
Buzzed guests are happy guests, but no one wants to see a plastered Uncle Willy doing the Electric Slide at dinner. Try this liquor fake-out:
-Up the amount of Dubonnet to 1 ½ oz, decrease the vodka to 1 oz. an then add ½ oz. club sode. Vodka is 100-proof and Dubonnet is 36-proof, so guests won’t get hammered -- or even know the difference.

thank you!! I am a liberal married into a conservative family, and this is my first Thanksgivin with them. I told my hubby that I don't want to talk abot politics and will make sure I don't particpate if the subject comes up. There are other things to talk about, like gettting to know each other. My brother in law brought up politics during my wedding reception back in the primary season, and I was speechless. Luckily, the Knot has reaffirmed my stance.

i´d say steer clear of religion also! unfortunately sometimes awkwardness and tense moments are unavoidable (believe me, i´m an expert on them), but what i´ve learned from my husband (who´s a little on the TOO relaxed side) is that we´re the ones who are married not them. we´ll see them only a couple of holidays a year, so make sure a fight between in laws doesn´t become a family feud. and most of all, whatever, by the next day they´ll all be gone. so try to have fun!

I tried this drink last year for a Christmas party and it was DISGUSTING! No one drank it...and I still have the bottle of Dubonnet in my fridge...yuck!
