Fitness Q&A: What makes a healthy breakfast?

Q.

The Nest Q&A

I've heard that you should start your day with the least amount of sugar and carbohydrates as possible because it increases belly fat. Is this true? If so, what is an example of a good breakfast?

A.

Nutritionists actually disagree on this one; some say that you should have the most carbohydrates of the day early on so you burn them off. Either way, you can’t go wrong with some lean protein, calcium, whole wheat or whole grain carbs, and fruit. Three of my favorite breakfasts are:

-A poached egg on whole-wheat toast sandwich with calcium-fortified orange juice
-Fiber One cereal with skim milk and frozen or fresh blueberries and a hard-boiled egg
-Fruit smoothie with nonfat yogurt, skim milk, berries, a banana, and peanut or almond butter
