I don't agree with this at all. We decided our future children's names on a 16 hour road trip!

I disagree, my husband and I have talked about all of these. We had a 14 hour trip from Illinois to NY. The more you talk to each other the better.

like the to other posters, I also disagree with the list - we've talked about all of those listed while driving save the child thing, that was more what to call future pups instead since we've chosen to be Childfree.

I think my fiance and I would have no problem discussing child names when on car trips. He and I plan on having several children when we get married and it would actually be a very fun and happy topic for a long car ride.

Along with everyone else I disagree. At least with most of the list. The only thing we haven't covered at least on a car trip is SAT scores. I think as long as you have good communication then it shouldn't matter what you talk about. If you know XXX topic will cause tension then don't bring it up since you are stuck in a confined space for a limited amount of time. That's about the only rule I follow.

I think a long car trip is one of the best times for these sometimes-touchy conversations. Something about being side-by-side and moving in the same direction can be a very healthy way to talk (although you might need to pull over and turn face-to-face for some of the deeper conversations). Much better to talk about these things than not talk about them! I mean what, are we supposed to just make small talk with our life partners?

Your article was a good read, and I like the way you write. By the way, let me recommend you an air swimmers as an awesome X-mas gift. Hope you'll like it.

Maybe you could talk about a future car donation with your loved one because she/he is such a poor driver and you don't need a car anyways. Just kidding of course, but I wasn't kidding about the fact that people need to remember about charity from time to time.

I also disagree! I have my husbands attention at that time and that's when we can really talk. Especially about in-laws!
