This is some great information, but it would be nice if they had some more pocket conscience suggestions.

FYI, this is now the Canary Hotel in Santa Barbara. I was married here in '08, and it is too beautiful.

These are way too expensive for us, it would be nice to see some reasonable ideas.

What about the south? Three articles on trips for couples and one of them out of Atlanta. Nothing on New Orleans, Nashville, Memphis, Kentucky, Cajun country in Louisiana, a blues trip to the Mississippi Delta, the beautiful mountains of Alabama, the outer banks, Charleston, Savannah, the emerald coast in n.w. Florida. Helloooooooo

Yeah, some more budget conscious ideas would be appreciated. Who has that kind of money to spend on a vacation these days?

by yarncarchick on Mar 19, 2010

I agree. These are some nice options, but the starting prices for these rooms are ridiculous. I wish I had the luxury to spend $400+/night.

Santa Barbara can be visited on a cheaper budget: the normal hotels aren't as expensive, and there are some good restaurants that do not make you spend a ton. It is a little more expensive because it is a beach town and small, but it is doable on a small budget. More affordable places would be nice, though :)

Wow, I live in Chicago and I've never been able to afford Alinea!

I was thinking more along the lines of under $150 per night (Hampton Inn always works for us).

by ShellyNimah on Jun 16, 2010

Agree. Why no Asheville or Charleston?

by Lander5 on Jul 21, 2010

from $450? a night? dear LORD.

Check out VRBO (Vacation Rentals by Owner) or their sister site HomeAway Vacation Rentals. We've used them for group outings and was able to secure a 4 bedroom HOUSE in Hawaii for our honeymoon this September for $150 per night!

One of the coolest getaway spots in the US is probably related to Hawaii hotel deals. Although Hawaii is not exactly in the US, it is a part of it. I warmly recommend Hawaii as a getaway spot. It's a very exotic location.
