10 Signs Your Guy Is in a Bromance

1. He has more nicknames for his best guy friend than for you.

2. When you suggest a double date, he says, “Great, you go out with Suzy, and Bill and I will catch the game.”

3. He went to see I Love You, Man…twice. And cried.

4. They have at least two almost-identical outfits.

5. During your wedding, his pal dragged you aside and said, “Take good care of him for me, okay?”

6. He spends more time getting ready for his bros’ night out than for your Friday night date.

7. They have an anthem, be it from Journey or Jay-Z, that they famously dub “our song.”

8. They take 10 minutes to tell the “hilarious” story about the first day they met (again).

9. You finally earn enough airline miles for the anniversary trip you’ve been dreaming of, and he says, “Cool! Dave and I can go to Vegas!”

10. He answers his buddy’s call…in the middle of sex.

Real-Life Bromances

We asked TheNest.com users if they thought their spouses were in a bromance. See what they said!

“Not only does my husband work with his BFF, they go out constantly and love staying out until 4 a.m. every single time. Ugh! It makes me crazy!” --augusta

“My husband and his best friend play Xbox while talking on their super-geeky headsets at least five times a week. They email funny crap to each other throughout the workday, and his friend comes over for dinner about once a week since he’s a bachelor and can’t make anything but breakfast sandwiches.” --Bella.in.CT

“My husband goes rock climbing with his buddy every weekend. It’s been a bromance since the day they met. His wife and I got the biggest laugh after we learned they’d bought matching climbing equipment.” --MrsMelB

“My guy and his best friend are inseparable. Luckily, the BFF is about to marry one of my best friends, so we do a lot of double dates -- although the guys still have their own ‘man dates’ every once in a while!” --jwpbride

“My husband and his BFF always take lavish guys-only trips all over the world, while I get to stay home and stew in my jealousy. They’ve already been to China, Japan, and Brazil!” --fruitiepye

“My husband and his best friend are so close, they’re even deployed together! When they’re home, I don’t mind how much they hang out, as long as it’s not the whole weekend. It gives me a nice little break too.” --Pinky_Briles86

LOL this is too funny, DH has a close friend from high school and then I think they're someone who wants to be a little too close with him. But this was just funny to read.

by ch3ls on Jun 03, 2009

Ha! If you think it's bad pre-baby, just wait until after the baby arrives. My husband uses any excuse to go out just so he can escape baby duty.

by Rubygirl on Jun 03, 2009

My husband and his best friend used to joke that they were married. They even danced to "I Will Always Love You" at our wedding as their "last dance". It was a memorable moment for all!

by jkowatch on Jun 03, 2009

Lavish guys-only trips all over the world? I'm not a super control freak over my hubby, but HELL NO! If you're going to Brazil, I am NOT staying at home!

by groveml on Jun 03, 2009

"6. He spends more time getting ready for his bros’ night out than for your Friday night date." Uh-oh... I think I have let the bro-mance go too far- I don't even get a Friday night date anymore!

by Airika8OH on Jun 03, 2009

My husband is nothing like any of this... anyone who can relate, I'm sorry for you. Anyone who acts like this is annoying & rude. It sounds like a kid in college.

by J+O on Jun 03, 2009

I wouldn't say he had a bromance but my folks got my husband and I football tickets for Christmas last year to see the Carolina Panthers before we moved out of state (I had told my parents how much my husband loved the Panthers). I even worked it out that I gave my two weeks notice so I would be able to go with him to the game. Then somehow he thought I told him I wouldn't be able to go with him so he gave my ticket away to his buddy. When I said I really wanted to go he said "But my friend took off of work to go"; keep in mind the seats were on the Panthers side, fifth row, on the fifty yard line. My hubby did offer to take me to a Lakers game to make it up to me, too bad I'm more of an NFL fan than an NBA fan (truthfully I'd rather go to a Dodgers game and I have no clue about the rules of baseball).

by jb sheff on Jun 04, 2009

hear hear to J+O. my husband's best friends all moved away after high school. he sometimes goes out to play frisbee golf with one of his employees and one or two of the employee's friends, but when you don't drink alcohol i guess your social life gets really limited. this website baffles me sometimes. though i like the stuff that doesn't stereotype people.

by kitten_casali on Jun 04, 2009

My husband definitely has a close relationship with his BFF's (because there's a group of them that grew up together) but there's are lines that are not to be crossed. Maybe it's just me but all of those responses above are a bit suspect in my opnion. Maybe I've watched Brokeback Mountain one too many times but I'd be a bit suspicious if my husband was choosing his friends over me.I am one who encourages my husband to spend time with his friends as well HOWEVER Staying out until 4 a.m. every time? Going to Brazil, China and Japan with your friend and leaving me behind? Oh Hells NO!! #9 and #10 wasn't too bad but the rest hmmm.....

by LOVIE2 on Jun 04, 2009

yeah these might have been a little over the top. My hubby (poor thing) doesnt have time to do anything. He works from 8-9 on a daily basis and sometimes out of town. When he does get a chance for his own time, for example every friday night he usually gets crap from me because I want him to myself. But I think I'm gonna cut him some slack after reading this article.

by Latina86 on Jun 04, 2009

I joke about my fiance's BF. They grew up together and it is fun to hang out with them all. I don't mind at all...we even bought a house close to him and his wife. I will say that if my hubby is spending astronomical amounts of OUR money going on elaborate trips, it won't be with his best friend. That's just ridiculous.

by ajd2477 on Jun 12, 2009

My fiance keep running up the minutes on the cell talking to his best friend and spending an incredible amount of time with him. His friend kept coming to visit and staying late even though he has a pregnant wife at home They are newly close and I keep joking about their "bromance" which he doesn't think is funny at all because he assumes that means it's something romantic. I had to talk to him about spending so much time with his guy friend and such a small amount of time with me. There was a lot going on and I was being a real big pain in his butt but I was of course offended that he found more joy/relaxation blowing off steam & shooting the breeze with his buddy than with me. I was offended, but then again, I realized I needed to lighten up the amount of stress I was putting him under.

by OkomfoAdwoa@yahoo.com on Jun 12, 2009

I couldn't imagine tolerating someone who treated me second. It has taken me a long to find that someone who I love and can communicate with. Sure, we have some hiccups. But, I have learned not to compromise myself to that level anymore. How refreshing age can be.

by 90adsf on Jun 13, 2009

I can relate. I have made comments to my husband that he talks to his BF more than me, spends more time getting ready to go out with him, and even had his bachelor party weekend thrown by him on my birthday weekend. His BF does seem to keep the bromance going though; he bought a matching shirt when they went golfing once (howgay!) and got really jealous to the point of not talking to us when we got engaged. His BF is a bachelor still, which I think has a lot to do with it.

eek. i'd be nervous if my hubby had gone on trips around the world with only his friend. are you sure he's not bi?

by ivyelle4 on Sep 30, 2009

eek. i'd be super nervous if my hubby had gone on trips around the world with only his friend. fruitieypye, are you sure he's not bi? a friend of mine (gay guy) has said he's shocked how many 'straight', married guys are on websites looking for a hookup with a guy.

by ivyelle4 on Sep 30, 2009

Hey Lady Judgey Judgersons! Women have been attached at the hips since pre-school and our men accept it, they might grunt and roll their eyes, but they accept it and let us be. I say boys have your bromance. It's about time men got over this stigma. I love it. It's healthy for men to have friendships that go beyond Sunday football and a strip club don't you think. I welcome it. Honey go ahead and rock climb, build a retaining wall, talk about the lawn and the BBQ and the new team with your bromance! We might have to discuss globe trotting though... I'll be on the phone with the girls watching the Real Housewives in my sweats with the NY Times crossword, a deco magazine and some nail polish enjoying the night off.

by mush2121 on Oct 01, 2009

Yea, lucky for me, my husband doesn't fit this profile. He doesn't have a whole lot of friends and would rather spend time with me. But so much as go out of town, let alone out of country, with anyone but me unless it is to see his family... baby, you better be wearing Army ACU or your bag is not getting packed because I will HIDE the thing! Unfortuneately, I was the one answering the phone in the middle of sex... when it was my EX-HUSBAND calling!! Yea, we were not happy about THAT phone call (but he had my kids and one of them had been feeling icky earlier, so we kinda had to answer)

by alaskancoppertop on Nov 10, 2009

My FATHER has been in a bromance for about 5 years now.

by katelyn_alameda on Feb 13, 2010

My husband spent $38 buying his BFF/friends chipotle and wouldn't take me out for dinner the following weekend.

by rnw2@uakron.edu on Feb 19, 2010

The guys-only world trips comment made me think of Brokeback Mountain. Sorry, just my opinion. If my husband did any of these things (besides the last example of being deployed), I would feel like he was putting some other person ahead of me. Not acceptable.
