Love Q&A: Giving Housewarming gifts?

Q.

Our newlywed friends are throwing a housewarming party and hinted that they want gifts. Do we need to give them yet another present?

A.

Even though you may feel (with reason) that it's tacky for your friends to solicit another gift from you, etiquette dictates that you always bring a little home-related gift to a housewarming party unless the invitation specifies "no gifts." You probably bring a bottle of wine to parties anyway, so if you bring a gift to this one, skip the wine, and you won't be out extra dough.
