The Nest Q&A

My spouse just started a new job, and one of his colleagues (a woman who's single and very attractive) has begun calling him during nonworking hours. Do I say something?

A.

While we don't want you to panic, you need to handle this situation well. Studies show that affairs are most likely to start at work, so why risk it?

HAVE A SIT-DOWN. Although it's likely innocent, the relationship could easily escalate if you don't tell your husband her behavior is inappropriate. Don't accuse him of anything—it puts you on opposite sides.

DON'T CONFRONT HER. He (or you) shouldn't tell his coworker you're leery. You'll look insecure.

CREATE LIMITS. It's key to agree on some ground rules. Say, if she calls after 7 p.m., he won't pick up. Should she email, he'll always write, "We'll deal with this at work."
