Getting Pregnant Q&A: What Do Sperm Swim Through?

Q.

What do sperm swim through to read the egg?

A.

Dr. Chang says: In order for sperm in the vagina to reach and fertilize an egg, they must swim through the cervical mucus and cervix into the uterine cavity. The Sperm then pass through the uterine cavity into the fallopian tube, where fertilization usually occures in the distal (near the end) portion of the tube known as the ampulla.
