Sex Q&A: Best Sex Positions to Get Pregnant?

Q.

The Nest Q&AAre there any positions that increase your chances of getting pregnant?

A.

There are lots of things you can do to improve your chances of getting pregnant. First, I'd like you to consider your overall health by eating a nutritious diet full of leafy green vegetables and fresh fruit. You should certainly not be smoking or drinking (or at least drinking very little in the run-up to getting pregnant). Try to get proper sleep and de-stress your life wherever you can. Also, ask your healthcare provider about taking a folic acid supplement. Your husband should also take measures to be in good physical health as well as not letting his testicles get overheated in tight pants, exercise shorts, and so on.

Since you don't mention any problems with fertility, I'd avoid getting overly concerned about taking your temperature or using an ovulation-predictor kit when you're first trying. Instead, make love as frequently as you want, aiming for the center of your monthly cycle. Once your husband ejaculates, you should roll onto your back (if you're not already in that position), tip your pelvis into the air, and lift your legs -- gravity will literally help his semen on their way. Think of the "bicycle" position where people cycle their legs in the air. Also, ensure you have an orgasm so that the rhythmic contractions help the semen move up toward your cervix. Good luck!

Make sure you go to the bathroom after sex, I have gotten so many bladder infections in the process of trying!

cmastro: so many women find that out the hard way. That should be one of the questions your dr. asks when they find out you have an infection.

the 'roll onto your back (if you're not already in that position), tip your pelvis into the air, and lift your legs' part is just weird. i want my time to be natural not weird.

Good to know having an orgasm helps... not that I needed an excuse

Interesting!

Wow. Just proves that not all Dr's are smart. Semen know where they are going, they don't need extra help from gravity and hanging out in bed with your legs is a good way to get a UTI.

by Milliways on May 04, 2010

Gravity only helps the slow and weak semen on their way. The strong and fast ones don't need any assistance. Most of the advice in paragraph 2 is a surefire way to get a UTI. It's not necessary, ladies!

aiming for the center of your monthly cycle? really? I guess the fact that everybody O's at differnet times is not medical sound in this article. As for lifting your legs after sex, people- please don't take that advice and save yourself a UTI.

UTI's suck! I want to enjoy making love to my husband but I am always worried about an infection! I wish that someone would have told me about going to the bathroom after sex before I got married!

by donnaju on Aug 16, 2010

I have to agree with everyone...def. a way to get a UTI. the only time i didn't use the restroom immediately after sex i got my first and only UTI. it was h**l and i always go to the restroom after. Please don't lay with your butt in the air giving the bacteria a nice breeding ground.

Take cranberry capsules to prevent UTI's!

by gizmoae on Oct 27, 2010

ok... so which part gives the UTI? Just not going to the bathroom after sex or the legs & hips in the air move? Dont want it either way. I have heard that if you lay on one side you will get a girl and vise versa for the other side. Any truth to that someone can share?

by Sarahjoysmile on Nov 24, 2010

i used suffer a lot from UTI but since a started using the restroom after sex ive not seen a UTI, i also take alot of water and cranberry juice, resting after sex will sure alow the sperms to move to the cervix. before you use the rest room its important you relax for 2minutes
