By now, you've probably heard that the new version of The Newlywed Game features gay couples. My first thought when I heard was, Yay! Now it'll be funnier and more interesting to watch. But after viewing this clip of Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi playing, I'm kind of rethinking that. Sure, there were a few cute moments, but the truth is, Degeneres and de Rossi were just as snoozy to view as their hetero competitors. I guess I deserve to be bored for thinking in stereotypes. Consider me schooled, gay community at large; my most sincere apologies.
The real takeaway? The show did a great job of illuminating how little we really know about the person we married (both couples got nearly every answer wrong). Jack and I are usually great at games like these. Once, during a game of Taboo, friends accused us of being psychically connected and banned us from playing on the same team for all future game nights. But even we'd have no idea how to answer questions like, "If (insert spouse's name here) were reincarnated as a dog, what kind would she/he be?"
It's easy to think we know everything there is to know about our partner, but it's never really true. And I just so happen to find the unknown super-sexy. I mean, I've been with Jack a really long time -- and yet, fresh details continue to pop up and hook me all over again.
What about you? Is it the familiar or the unfamiliar that turns you on in your relationship?
