My Married Life: Is Your Guy Acting Reckless? Could be ’Cause You’re So Gorgeous

I’ll admit, it’s been a while since I had a man totally spin out in front of me -- just come completely unglued and show off like an idiot. But reading this article totally brought me back. Apparently, the mere presence of a hottie sends testosterone levels sky high and makes guys willing to take more risks. The study was conducted by psychologists in Australia who got their data by observing a bunch of skateboarders (okay, not exactly a realistic scientific cross section when it comes to male behavior). But here’s the thing: The skaters tried much more dangerous tricks (and crashed more) when a beautiful woman was around. The most disturbing part of the article? The fact that something called “passive drool” was studied.

Um, ick.

So, how does this information relate to the average married gal (like, say...moi)? First, it’s a gentle reminder to me to tighten up my game in the looks area. I mean, it’s one thing to want to look good, but it’s way more fun to think that by simply looking awesome I could be inspiring Jack to kick more a*# at work (or tackle that intimidating home reno project). I know, I know, this sort of talk probably doesn’t pass the feminist smell test. But it’s a funny line of thinking. Second, the study makes me wonder what kind of crazy risks Jack may have taken the day 50 Hawaiian Tropic swimsuit models were on set at his job. Note to self: Start being suspicious if he ever comes home from a shoot with odd injuries. Just kidding.

But what do you guys think? Have you ever seen this effect in action?
