My Married Life: Our MCA (Most Common Argument)

It seems like every couple has that one thing they always end up fighting about. Maybe it's over something major -- like the fact that he still gets into staring contests with waitresses’ boobs. Or maybe it's over something minor -- like damp towels dropped on the bathroom floor. For Jack and me, that fight is usually about me interrupting him.

Here's the deal: Jack talks really slowly. Like, really slowly. As slowly as an old man in the Deep South talkin' bout how rough things used to be.

On the one hand, it's a big part of his charm. He’s a fantastic conversationalist and people are always drawn in by his calm, laid-back way of communicating. On the other, this is the way he talks. All. The. Time.

Well, whad’ya know? It just so happens that Jack married a very impatient lady. So sometimes, even though I've promised myself (and Jack) that I won't do it anymore, we find ourselves having a conversation that goes something like this:

Jack: So, I was thinking, I really need a --
Holly: Haircut?
Jack: No.
Holly: Vacation?
Jack: No.
Holly: Good multivitamin?
Jack: No.
Holly: Nap?
Jack: (loud sigh) No.
Holly: Wife who doesn't try to guess the end of your sentences?
Jack: Ding, ding, ding!

It's terrible. He always points out how disrespectful it is, and then I have to admit he's right and apologize. I do it way, way less than I used to. But hey, I still do it. I sure hope we aren't still having this same silly fight 20 years from now.

What about you guys? What's your MCA?
