Oh, Lordy. As a modern woman and self-described realist, I try to avoid getting all up in arms over things like
porn. My attitude has always been that it's there, all men use it (especially the ones who say they don't), so what is there to discuss, really? I agree with my feminist sisters that porn sets unrealistic standards for the way women should look and behave, but since I think fashion magazines and television are just as bad (or worse), I kind of throw my hands up.
I’ve
written before about the fine line between "normal" porn usage and full-blown
porn addiction, and I have always defined the latter as “porn usage that gets in the way of real intimacy.” But this week's
New York Magazine brought some rather unpleasant new findings to my attention. The biggest bummer? How alike the "normal" porn user and the porn addict are looking these days.
From the story: “I used to race home to have sex with my wife,” says Perry, a 41-year-old lawyer. “Now I leave work a half-hour early so I can get home before she does and masturbate to porn.”
I don't know about you. But that kinda freaks me out. What do you think?
