How They Met: How romantic -- on Valentine’s Day. Matt’s college roommate set them up by inviting them on a weekend trip to New York with him and some friends. “Matt and I clicked instantly, and when I returned to work the next week, there were flowers waiting at my desk,� Lindsay says.

For the next few months, Matt drove from North Carolina to Washington, DC, every weekend so that they could be together. Every Monday when Lindsay would return to work, there was a fresh bouquet of flowers.

They endured the long distance for a few years. As part of the Army Special Forces (Green Berets), Matt was transferred from North Carolina to Washington state and Kathleen moved from DC to New York for law school. Matt also had two deployments in the meantime to the Philippines and Iraq. Let’s just say their phone bills were a little out of control.

Careers: She’s an attorney; he’s a consultant.

Pets: The couple has three rescue dogs: Harrison Ford is a Labrador mix, Priscilla Presley is a mix between a Rottweiler and Shar Pei mix, and Flash Gordon is, well, they think he’s a Lab mix of some sort.

Baby Clock: In one or two years

Guilty Pleasures: Their guilty pleasure is not going out on Saturday nights. After long weeks at work, they’d rather spend that evening with a DVD and a delivery menu.

Secret No One Knows: How goofy they are

Biggest Pet Peeve: Kathleen: “Matt does a pitch-perfect voice imitation of my Blackberry. He loves to break it out on a relaxing Saturday morning, when the last thing I want to think about is work. What a cruel man!� Matt: “Kathleen and recycling bins don’t mix. When she does remember to recycle her Diet Dr. Pepper can, it inevitably gets thrown in with the newspaper.�

Downtime: Kathleen loves anything home- or decorating-related (a true Nestie…). She also loves to shop “infortunately,� she says. Matt loves to cook, “Every Sunday, I select a week’s worth of meals, and for the next five nights, I come home to an incredibly tasty dinner,� Kathleen brags. He’s also pretty awesome at Guitar Hero.

Biggest Compromise: Kathleen: “I was forced to give up my nightly Thai delivery routine and replace it with Matt’s amazing home-cooked meals. What a concession!� Matt: “Because Kathleen’s a vegetarian and I don’t want to cook two dinners, we never have meat at home.�

Splurge: “Besides our house? We skipped the condo or townhouse stage and decided to go straight for the four-bedrooms-in-the-burbs route. After an 850-square-foot apartment, it’s amazing to have so much space,� Kathleen explains.
