In Love and Real Estate

Any of you scrambling to buy a home before the end of the year -- and the $8,000 tax break? We hear you. And apparently, so does Coldwell Banker, who just released a study saying that when it comes to buying a home, men and women are much different.

For starters, the survey found that women would rather live closer to their relatives and further from work when given the option. (Really? Even with your crazy MIL? Okay.) They're also more likely to made a decision quicker -- almost 70 percent of ladies said they had made up their mind the first time they stepped in the house. Only 32 percent of men could say the same.

What men and women do seem to agree on is what to do with a spare room: The most common choice was to make it a bedroom (25 percent), followed by an office (15 percent) and extra family room (11 percent). There's, uh, just one more thing the guys want, and that's some space of their own. Some men take offense to the term "man cave" (as if to say, "What, does that make the rest of the house a 'woman cave'?"), but we're just going to embrace it for the sake of the study.

So what did you decide to do with the extra space in your home? Comment below or sound off on the Real Estate board.
