The best at home date night that we ever had was during a very tough week. My husband is in grad school, and we both have full-time jobs that cause us to sometimes have night and weekend hours. That particular week, we were so busy we were passing each other like boats in the night: sometimes I'd be asleep by the time he got home, and I left for work way before he was awake, etc. So we were emotionally a bit strung out. So, the following Monday, he normally had a whole evening of night class. So I was in the kitchen preparing to heat up a can of soup for dinner. I heard a knock on the door and he was standing there at the front door with a bouquet of flowers, a big bag of carry-out sushi, and a bottle of wine. He said he had called his professors and told them that he simply needed a night with his wife. So I burst into tears, and we had dinner, we slowdanced in our living room, and snuggled on the couch and watched tv together till we, *ahem* went to bed. ;) It was just how thoughtful he was, and how he recognized our need to take a breather and be alone. It was just the best evening. :)

My best at home date night with my husband was a night that I came home from work and he had cleaned the house and made me my favorite dinner(spaghetti). We got our plates and watched a romantic comedy and then took it to the bedroom. :) It was a great night because I felt special and loved by all my husband did for me and the thoughtfulness he put into the night. And it goes to show you, you don't need a lot of money to have a wonderful date with your husband!

My personal favorite at-home date was only a couple of weeks ago. I was leaving for a trip the next morning and still had to clean the house and pack, leaving little time for cooking. I blew off a work happy hour and surprised him by bringing home food from our favorite Greek restaurant (I was probably the first person to order food to-go there, but oh well!) and a bottle of good cabernet. We threw on our PJs, watched Jeopardy!, and played Scrabble. And yeah, we took things to the bedroom - to SLEEP! It was awesome :o)

My husband and I were stressed out with work and finance problems and wanted to get away for a night of camping after I got off of work. While I was at work it started to rain. When I got home there was a note attached to a head lamp that was hanging on the door knob. "Put this on." As I walked through the pitch black house, with the head lamp on, the hall way was lit with jars with candles inside. I got to the living room and the tent was set up and a fake fireplace heater was going in front of the tent. He had everything set up, the sleeping bags, the lanterns, the portable radio, glow in the dark stars on the ceiling, sticks, and a bag of marshmallows. We sat in the sleeping bags and pretended to roast marshmallows on the fake fire and told ghost stories. We never once turned on the lights and we slept in the tent that night. It was an amazing night under the stars in our living room.

Our best at-home date was when we had first moved in to our new home. We had just gotten married, so we didn't have very much. Our heat was broken, so we lay in front of the fire on our blow-up mattress and ordered pizza. We made up songs with my husband's guitar about being poor and in love...and wishing the pizza guy gave us more pepperonis. We still love talking about this date night--how organic love can be.

The best at-home date I've ever had with my soon-to-be husband involved building a tent in the living room. We arranged the chairs from the dining room so the backs formed a square and then draped blankets all over the top, just like I used to when I was little. We watched old cartoons and munched on Chinese takeout- our favorite- and kept snuggled up under the tent long after our movies were over. Though very simple and silly, we had so much fun laughing and building together and acting like kids; it was a great change from our normal, serious routines!

The best at-home date we ever had was on a rainy day. I had been stressed out from classes and the rain really wasn't helping. My husband (at the time we were dating) told me to come over to his place to hang out and relax for a bit. When I got there, he had set up an indoor picnic! He had some candles lit, a blanket on the ground, and had fruit, sandwiches, chips...everything we needed! I couldn't believe it. I had wanted to have a picnic with him for so long, and I almost started to cry. After we ate he pulled me close to him and we watched the rain outside, just enjoying some time together. It is by far one of my favorite memories with him!

Our best at home date was fairly recent. I had just gotten a kitchen torch and I was reading The Nest. It had all these kitchen torch recipes, so I offered to make french onion soup, one of our favorite dishes. I also knew that he would love creme brulee, so I made it ahead of time. He came home and made steak au poivre, homemade mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. It was a very French meal, complete with delicious wine. It was great to cook, listen to sexy music during dinner, and eat creme brulee during an episode of Dexter. Wow, I want another one of those dates!

I think the best at home date we ever had actually happened in our old apartment we were having a hard time with trying to get PG and two very important people on in my husbands family were dying. So I decided to make my husbands favorite meals. I used all our fancy stuff and without him even knowing this was happening he brought home wonderful amazing flowers from our florist who did our wedding so it was all of our wedding flowers it was perfect. We had a great talk, a nice bottle of wine and watched a really good movie and we tried to just be within that moment and not think about anything else. About two months after that we lost the two people that were dying in his family and after 2 years of going through IUI's and then IVF's and then on our 3rd IVF I found out I was having twins. Which was kind of weird because that night we talked about someday we will be blessed and he said yes and we will have twins and we did. They are amazing and we talk about that at home date quite often.

The best at home date night we have ever had was valentine's day a few years ago. We were in college and decided not to spend money for gifts. We spent the evening in, feeding each other chocolate fondue with raspberries and strawberries curled up on the couch. (I did spend money on the fondue set..woops!) We had planned on watching a movie, but ended up talking....and "talking" the rest of the night! His gift was a list of 100 reasons why he loves me. It made me cry and it made me laugh hysterically. It was the most memorable gift he's given me in our 8 years together! :)

The best at home date night happened on our first night in our new apartment. He had just returned from an over year long deployment in Iraq and we were just enjoying being together. We ordered pizza, drank some wine and sat by the fire. After dinner and some cuddling, we roasted some marshmallows and we just laughed and talked, and of course I cried happy tears to have him back. After dessert, we danced and he held me so tight. We spent the rest of our amazing night in our bedroom and I fell asleep curled up next to him. It was such a wonderful welcome home for both of us.

The best at home at home date night is when we invited my grandparents over to our house for a double ate we ordered pizza and watched some movies and talked about married life it was great

This is easy. The best at home date I've ever had was about six years ago. We had been dating for about two months. We had said to each other the entire time that we weren't looking for anything serious, but it was obvious that we were both falling head over heels for each other. My family had planned a vacation in Nashville, TN for a week in a half. My date and I were missing each other so much that we were calling each other each night on the phone to say our sweet "goodnights". Upon coming back to Colorado from my family vacation, I met up with him at his house. What he did for me was unforgettable. He tracked down all of my girlfriends and brought every single candle they owned into his bedroom in the basement of his house, set up a dining table with roses and music also. When I walked down into his room in basement, I was shocked. He had cooked me an extravagant five course dinner. His friend, who is a chef, helped him with recipes and made sure he cooked everything perfectly for me that night. He put so much effort into making it the perfect night for both of us. It was at that moment that I realized how special our relationship was. It was then that we both knew we were falling in love. And now, all these years later, we are getting married this May.

The best at home date that we ever had was never actually intended to be a date. I had just had surgery on my "lady area" a few days before and was recovering at our home and asleep. When I woke up I found that he had made me breakfast in bed - with a bagel, cream cheese, cereal, orange juice, milk, water, jello, pudding, waffles - basically every single breakfast item we had had in the house, in case I was "very" hungry. Since I couldn't move around much, he helped me shower, washed and brushed my hair, massaged my wounded area, lit candles, and put on every gooey romantic movie he could find and just held me the entire day. I never even knew that kind of love existed until I met him. :)

When we first started dating my now fiance and I lived over a hundred miles apart. For my first visit to his house planned a really great day trip. He drove us up to the Yosemite mountains to see the gorgeous view. But while up there he got very sick and it wasn't a pretty sight... I had to drive us back to his house while he slept in the truck. Once we arrived I managed to find my way around his kitchen and make him some soup. We sat together for hours eating soup, talking, laughing and just falling in love. It was the best at-home date ever and it was completely unplanned.

My husband and I are missionaries and we don't have a car, so all of our dates are at home! One of my favorites is when we made egg rolls and we started dancing around in the kitchen wearing our pajamas. We had so much fun going wild with the music and the food was great! Who says you have to get dressed up to have a good time?

by megaloo27 on Feb 09, 2010

Our best date night at home was when he surprised me one evening with homemade dinner of ribs and homemade mashed potatoes... the same dinner he made the night we got engaged. It was on the 50th day we had been married. He then had the wedding DVD in the player and we watched our ceremony for the first time together. Let's just say he was rewarded later that night! :)

Due to our busy work schedules and our new mortgage in Southern California, my husband I have not had a night alone in awhile, nor can we afford a big night out. We needed some alone time, so we cleared the calendar last Friday night. He came home with flowers, we made homemade mac'n'cheese, lit a living room full of candles, and caught up on last Tu.'s 3 hours of "Lost." It was a relaxing, romantic, fun evening together snuggled on the couch.

by rizbug on Feb 09, 2010

My husband and I love to challenge each other to new things. My favorite at-home date night was an evening when we each picked out a different Indian food recipe to make, We went to the store to stock up on ingredients and then each cooked a different dish; he chose a curried lentil dish and I chose a spicy potato dish. We then sampled the other's masterpiece, sitting on the rug in front of the fire. After dinner we played our favorite (albeit nerdy) game, strip scrabble.

A few months ago, my hubby and I were going through a rough emotional patch. He is doing school full-time and still going to work full-time. I however, got laid off. I was job-hunting, selling things on ebay, trying to make ends meet, and just plain missing him. I was so destructive and down on myself for being unable to find work, that I had to go to in-patient therapy for help. One night, I was making dinner before my mister came home from school, when he walked in early with a single, long-stem rose in hand! He grabbed an apron, kissed the back of my hand and cooked egg rolls with me. We spent the rest of the night playing wii games together, reading aloud to each other out of an old Dean Koontz book and messing up the covers. It was the best date night ever!

The best at-home date that my fiance and I have had was after a few months of being away from each other (military), he came home, cooked an amazing dinner (the works, steak (cooked perfectly might I add, baked potato, bread). It was all so delicious and from the heart. We spent the entire evening sitting on the couch, cuddling and enjoying each others company. We watched a little television and slow danced. This was the best at-home date for me because we had both were so real and so in tune with how we felt about each other. It was obvious how much we cared about each other without words.

by SarahNicewander on Feb 09, 2010

The best at-home date I ever had was the night he proposed to me. We had to-go food from our favorite restaurant, it was snowing outside, and we watched funny movies all night long. It was romantic because it was completely us.

by yaytara on Feb 09, 2010

the best date night we ever had was actually far from it! My husband and I have known each other for 14 years, since high school, so we have had many romantic and fun times. however my favorite evening memory was about 3 years ago. Our son was about a year old, and it was flu season. both my husband and i were sick with the flu, sneezing, coughing congested.. the works. My mom kept my son overnight so he would be safe frome our germs. My husband and i had not had much alone time since our son was born, so it was nice just to be with each other without distractions. somehow, even as sick as we were, we had a great time watching TLC home improvement shows while passing a kleenex box and vaporub back and forth, and eating taco bell takeout that neither of us could taste. But we had so much fun it was hysterical because we were both so sick. But there is something weirdly romantic about being able to still enjoy being together when you both are so far below par. we did survive, and we still joke about taking another sick day together!

My best "at home" date night was when we were in undergrad still having a long distance relationship. He sent me flowers in the mail, and then unexpectedly showed up to suprise me with food. We lived 4 hours away from each other at the time.

My husband and I have been married two weeks. While we are still quite new to married life, we value the time we do get to spend together. My favorite at-home date night, so far, took placa a few weeks before our wedding. The night before, in pre-marital counseling, I revealed how hard it was not knowing how he (my fiance at the time) often felt about me. I am very vocal and he is not. The next night, he beat me home. After a long day of working with stressed out kids, all I wanted to do was go to sleep. He met me at my car with flowers and helped me take my things inside. I could already smell dinner on the stove. He told me to relax and that dinner would be ready soon. We left the tv off and we had one of the best conversations about our relationship since we first started dating. Even though it is tough to get lovey-dovey stuff from him sometimes, that night reminded me how lucky I am to have such a great guy. He made time to focus on me and that speaks more to me than words.

My best at home date was just a few weeks ago. My husband built a roaring fire while I made a Freshetta Pizza and salad for dinner. We ate in the living room while we watched a movie. After dinner we just snuggled on the couch all night.

I am a newlywed and when we got married we were both full time students, had part time jobs and very involved in our community church. It was all very stressful and were not home 5 out of the 7 days in a week. So one night we dedicated a night to us. We love snack food so we bought little appetizers. Turned off the computer, phones and tv and played bored games. Just us all night. It was a sweet getaway where noone could reach us and we were just having fun like the dating days =)

by Mrs.Tutterrow on Feb 11, 2010

Last Valentine's Day was our first one together. We decided we really wanted to avoid the crowds and stay in. So I made baked ziti and purchased a bottle of wine. On my bed, he set up a card and flowers on this cute little monkey. Only light was from the candles we had everywhere. He made a mix cd of songs. We had a fire going and we layed a bunch of pillows and blankets on the floor by the fire. We layed by the fire talking and drinking and "enjoying" each other till early morning when we fell asleep. It was our best date by far! Even though we had a few minor catostrophes. We managed to have the stuffed monkey he got me go up in flames! And my husband loves corsets, which I had no idea how to put on, so I was in the bedroom for awhile trying to come out with that on for him! A simple night in turned into one of the most memorable dates we have had.

The best at home date night my husband and I had actually was a surprise to both of us. We live in Madison, WI and this past December we had a huge snow storm. Both of the restaurants we work at closed down and we were pretty much forced to stay in. We broke open the wine and spent the night sipping wine and cooking up a giant pot of Jalapeno Soup, to warm us up. We put a fire on and cozied up as the snow piled up around us.

one night in our bedroom i come down stairs and music was playing and i saw my man wearin a nice fitting buttoned down see thru (white) top and he was wearin black boxer briefs.. fancy lookin ones that made his buns look great. and he was just dancing with me and talking like antonio banderes... and just being all sexy and romancing me and feeding me chocolates.../massaging my whole body! i had FUN that night! (that to me was a sexy lil date) a "late nite type of date." oo wee was i in heaven that night! :-)

My husband is great at suprising me with home date nights often. My favorite time was when I came home and when I opened the door there was dinner ready on separate plates on the table. Dessert on its own plate in the center with wine and flowers and a card. As I walked in music started playing (in a room only lit with candles) and he walked out in a suit, asked if he could have the dance and we danced to the song we danced to at our wedding. I melted!
