Money Q&A: Improving Credit?

Q.

A.

Can I improve my credit if it's already good?

Definitely. Pay bills on time and keep balances at or below 40 percent of your limit. As for credit cards, don’t open any new lines of credit, keep your oldest lines of credit open, and make sure your charging habits are under control. Pay down debts as much as possible, and any new debts should be kept at a minimum and paid on time. Also restrict the amount of inquiries made about your report -- the more businesses look at your report, the more points you lose. Remember these key points and, before you know it, your (credit) bill of health will be better than ever.
