How much did you spend on your bed/bed frame?
I'm in the market for a new bed. I'm fairly giddy about it since this will be my first big furniture purchase (everything I currently own is a hand-me-down). I've narrowed it down to two beds of a similar style, but I can't decide whether to go with the investment bed for $799 from CB2.com, or the less expensive (but simpler) bargain for $149 at IKEA.com. What do you think? Is $799 too much, or should I shy away from a quick, inexpensive fix?
I'm torn between these two price tags because it's hard to tell whether my taste for mid-century modern-inspired furniture is here for good or just a passing phase. Currently my bedroom has a shabby-chic vibe happening, but after about a year, I'm now so over it.
To be fair -- I decided on my original cottage-y style to save money since most of the furniture I was given for my first place was white and old. All I needed was a few gallons of paint and some cleverly placed accessories to pull off the look.
This next bed will be the beginning of a style completely my own, so I feel like I'll be more likely to hold onto it longer. However, this a rather bold style to commit $799 to, no? How fast did you grow out of your first grown-up bedroom furniture? How much did you spend on it, and if you could go back, would you buy it all over again?
