The Nest Q&A

How do you collect unemployment?

A.

Unemployment is paid out to workers who have been at a company for a certain amount of time and have been laid off or fired (the time frame varies from state to state, so check out DOL.gov). Go to your local unemployment office or apply at your state's unemployment website (which varies as well). If the state decides that you're eligible, you'll get a weekly or biweekly payment based on what you were earning. Just don't expect it to be as much as your old salary!
