How many places did you look at before finding the right one?
We looked at about 30 houses altogether. We physically saw about 20 and looked at the rest online.
How long were you looking?
We didn’t need to move right away, so we looked at what was on the market for a few months. Once we decided that we were going to move, it only took about four weeks until we found our house.
What was the worst part about house-hunting?
The worst part about house-hunting was putting an offer on a house and getting that offer rejected. It made us lose confidence, and we were really hesitant to do it again. We got our hopes up only for them to come crashing down.
What was the best part?
I really enjoyed getting to see all of the different houses. It seemed like we were envisioning what our life would be like in every house we saw. It was fun to dream about all the possibilities.
Was it hard to compromise and find a house you both loved?
For us it wasn't difficult to find a house we both loved. Lucky for us, we have similar tastes in style. We made a short list of necessities and then made a much longer list of things that would be nice to have but could live without. In the end, we got what we needed and quite a few of the things we wanted to have.
Do you have any advice for other Nesties who are house-hunting now?
Find a real estate agent that you trust. It's great to be able to have someone that knows you, will shoot you straight, and not show you homes you can’t afford. And watch out for the For-Sale-By-Owners! We thought it would be cheaper, but in the end, we had to pay more because they wouldn't pay agent fees. We loved our agent so it was worth it.
