Yoohoo! Yeah, we're talking to you. True, you may not think you're guilty – but if you've ever “rewarded” him for dropping a few pounds by baking him a cake, or if he’s ever surprised you with your favorite ice cream when he knew you were trying not to indulge -- then guess what? You are! But relax, admitting it is half the battle!
Here's how to break the habit:
1. Sit down together and make a list of all the ways you have undermined each-other's weight loss and fitness goals in the past -- list everything from that movie marathon you watched together (when he'd planned to go jogging) to that episode we'll just call the cupcake scarfing incident (so maybe it wasn't cupcakes - we know you have your own version).
2. Look each other in the eye and pledge not to do a single one of these things for the next 30 days (hopefully, by the thirtieth day, you'll have established some new habits). It might feel a little dorky - but do it anyway. We promise - losing weight together will more than make up for it.
3. Talk about strategies -- as in what to do to actually support rather than thwart each other. Maybe you'll help make sure he actually gets out of bed 30 minutes early to do those workouts he's been talking about forever. Maybe he'll learn to prepare a few healthy dinners for the two of you. Who knows what you can accomplish when you put your heads together? Stay tuned for more tips as we countdown to the challenge!
