Today, we have a Nestie with a fashion question I’m sure we’ve all dealt with: What do you wear for your first day at a new job? Most work places have a dress code, but there are definitely ways to tailor the general guidelines to your individual style. So what do you wear when you’re not sure how far to push the envelope (nor do you want to push it too far on your first day!)?
Nestie Raiboo has decided on the following outfit for her first day at her new job at a nonprofit: “black pencil skirt, purple silk shirt, black cardigan, and black sling backs.” She’s also bringing along a black suit jacket, but she’s worried the outfit may be too much black.
Allow me to play Stacy and Clinton for a moment and say that as long as you feel comfortable and aren't clad entirely in black, you should be in the clear with a sleek, tailored, and well-accessorized outfit. I made it my mission to find ways to add some flair to Raiboo’s first-day outfit through her shoes and accessories.
Purple shirt: Limited.com, $39.50; silver earrings: Express.com, $16.50; faux croc belt: BananaRepublic.com, $70; silver bangles: Nordstrom.com, $38/each; black Mary Janes: Zappos.com, $105; pencil skirt: BananaRepublic.com, $80
